Dermal Filler Butt Enhancements & Complications

The recent trend of hip dips and buttocks enhancements with dermal fillers took over minimally invasive aesthetic treatments to the body contouring era. As with any aesthetic treatment, butt filler treatment does not come without complications, and a qualified and experienced aesthetic provider is key.

In this blog article, we are discussing minimally invasive buttocks enhancement treatment options and risks.

The types of dermal fillers used for body contouring, hip dips, and buttocks enhancements:

  • Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers such as HYACORP, Genefill
  • Collagen Biostimulators such as Sculptra, Radiesse, Lanluma, and Kardashian’s doctor – Dr. Simon Ourian’s brand Neustem.

The alternatives for dermal filler contouring include exercise or surgery.

Injection related reactions: bruising, infection, pain, and swelling

Large amounts of hyaluronic acid injections (more than 100cc) can cause secondary HA dermal filler complications:

delayed onset infection, chronic infections, nodules, dislocation and migration, hypertrophic scarring, asymmetry, and distortions.

Granuloma-type sterile abscesses are relatively common too.

Overstimulation of collagen can result in granulomatous-type reactions, often in a person sensitive to PLLA material, and/or having significant immune system-related health problems.

Advantages over other methods of buttocks enhancements

  • Affordable
  • Quick results due to HA expansiveness
  • More likely ‘Bumps and Lumps’
  • MINIMAL immediate downtime (secondary complications are becoming more frequent due to amounts administered & body’s reactions )
  • Looks ‘Jello’ like ie soft appearance
  • Lasts up to 2 years plus
  • Tightens and firms up skin, hence tight and uplifted butt side profile!
  • Prevent cellulite development
  • Natural-looking results
  • Stimulates your own collagen
  • Reduces cellulite appearance

Points to consider

  • Longevity – after 6-8 months HA starts to degrade, even though companies promise results lasting over 2 years.
  • HA fillers are gel-like substance, which works on water absorption – results never result in firm and tight butt side profile
  • Lasts 2-5 years
  • As based on your natural collagen production, much more moderate results, requiring few sessions, hence it is a bit pricier option
Minimal amount to see the difference
  • 50mls each side
  • Recommended to go above 100mls on each side, and not more frequently than 6 months periods to ensure that there are no delayed HA-related reactions.
  • 40mls per side for hip dip corrections, and 80mls per side for butt uplift
  •  This may require 1-3 sessions scheduled 4-6 weeks between each treatment to give additional volume.

The protocol for HA and collagen generating dermal fillers for body correction is mostly similar to dermal fillers treatment for the face. Treatment was conducted in an aseptic technique mainly using cannula’s and with minimal downtime.

The ideal candidate would be looking to volumise their buttocks or correct hip dips because they have lost their natural curves due to age or weight loss, or simply want to achieve a rounder shape.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) dermal fillers

HA Body Enhancements are forbidden to be used by FDA and require a medical doctor to administer them in the majority of European countries due to risks of complications.

Collagen Biostimulators Body treatments  (also known as SCULPTRA BUTT LIFT

    • Sculptra and Lanluma are Poly-L-Lactic dermal fillers used for skin and soft tissue augmentation that also stimulates the body’s own collagen production.
    • Radiesse and NEUSTEM are different types of collagen stimulators – mixture of ECM (extracellular matric) and calcium hydroxipatate. The principle is the same to stimulate the body’s own collagen production.

This means that over time, your butt lift gets better!

N.B.Treatment for HA secondary dermal filler complications, especially in body contouring procedures and especially amounts of HA dermal filler administered in large amounts (over 100cc or MLS) requires multiple sessions of dissolving with hyaluronidase (the enzyme which breaks down hyaluronic acid) and often steroid injection treatments as well as oral antibiotics. Chronic untreated infections can cause permanent scarring, lipoatrophy ( sunken skin due to scarring) and in the worse case reported cases necrosis with severe health complications.
