NEWGyn Treatment: A Hormone-Free Option for Menopausal Intimate Dryness

Intimate dryness is far more common than most women realise, especially after menopause. Dryness, burning and irritation in the intimate area affect many women, yet few ever mention it, even to their doctor. Many assume it’s simply “part of ageing” and that nothing can be done.

There are options. One of the newest in aesthetic medicine is the NEWGyn treatment, now available at Aestha Clinic. It is hormone-free, minimally invasive and designed around one goal: healthier, more comfortable tissue. Here’s how it works, who it’s for and what the research does and doesn’t say.

What Is NEWGyn?

Think of NEWGyn as a hydration and renewal treatment for delicate skin that rarely gets any attention. It is a sterile gel in a 2 ml pre-filled syringe, injected into the skin of the intimate area to improve hydration and tissue quality. It is made by the Italian company Mastelli and is a Class III CE-marked medical device.

The formula has three key ingredients:

  • Polynucleotides (PN-HPT®, 10 mg/ml). These are highly purified DNA fragments. They are linked to fibroblast activation and the production of collagen and extracellular matrix. In simple terms, they encourage skin cells to rebuild the tissue’s structure.
  • Non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid (10 mg/ml). A molecule known for binding water. Here it hydrates and supports elasticity. “Non-cross-linked” means it works as a fluid hydrating gel rather than a volumising filler.
  • Mannitol. The protector of the formula. This antioxidant shields hyaluronic acid from enzymatic and oxidative breakdown, helping its effect last longer.

One essential point: NEWGyn contains no hormones. It is not hormone replacement therapy and it has no oestrogen.

Why Does Intimate Dryness Happen?

During menopause, oestrogen levels drop. Oestrogen helps keep vulvar and vaginal tissue thick, elastic and naturally moisturised. When it declines, the tissue can become thinner, drier and more delicate. Doctors call this genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM), also known as vulvovaginal atrophy.

Women may notice:

  • Dryness, burning or irritation
  • Skin and mucosa that feel less elastic and less resilient
  • General discomfort in the area, including during intimacy, due to dryness and reduced lubrication

NEWGyn targets this loss of tissue quality directly.

What NEWGyn Is Not

A few important clarifications:

  • Not a filler. It does not add volume to the labia majora.
  • Not “vaginal tightening”. It is not a rejuvenation procedure that narrows the vagina.
  • Not a treatment for urinary incontinence.
  • Not hormone therapy. It does not replace it.

NEWGyn is a biostimulation and hydration treatment, and that clear focus is what makes it unique.

How Is NEWGyn Administered?

The treatment must be performed by a trained physician. Using an ultra-fine 30G needle, the doctor places small intradermal injections (into the skin itself) in the vulvar area, such as the labia majora. Microdroplet or fan techniques are commonly used. The objective is to improve tissue quality, not to add volume.

Afterwards, some women experience temporary stinging, tenderness, redness, swelling or mild bruising. These effects are usually short-lived.

How Many Sessions Are Needed?

Protocols vary slightly by source and by the severity of symptoms, but the most common approach is:

  • Initial course: 3 to 4 sessions, spaced 2 to 3 weeks (14 to 21 days) apart. Depending on severity, some manufacturers and clinics mention 3 to 6 sessions.
  • Maintenance: results are not permanent, so one maintenance session is generally recommended every 6 months (some protocols suggest every 6 to 12 months).

Think of it like a skincare routine: a starter course followed by regular maintenance.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Potential candidates: adult women whose doctor has ruled out other causes, such as infections or dermatitis, and who have dryness, fragility or loss of elasticity in the vulvovaginal mucosa related to menopause.

Situations where NEWGyn is not suitable, or needs careful medical review first:

  1. Fish allergy. The polynucleotides are fish-derived, so the treatment should not be used.
  2. Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Generally not recommended, as a precaution.
  3. Active infection, ulcers or inflammation in the treatment area. Injections must wait until these resolve.
  4. History of cancer. The product has no hormones, but it requires individual medical evaluation.
  5. Postmenopausal bleeding of unknown cause. This calls for immediate referral to gynaecology to rule out serious conditions. It is not a case for an aesthetic treatment.

Known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid, mannitol or any other ingredient is also a contraindication.

What Does the Research Say?

Good information means looking at the evidence honestly.

In 2022, a pilot study in the journal Climacteric followed 50 postmenopausal women with an average age of about 60. They received four sessions of polynucleotides combined with hyaluronic acid, two weeks apart, and were evaluated with validated questionnaires on vaginal health, vulvar health and sexual function. The researchers reported no complications or side effects and concluded that the treatment was safe and reproducible. Other small studies, summarised in a 2024 review, also describe improvements in dryness, itching and sexual function.

Now the important context:

  • These are small, short-term studies, and the 2022 pilot had no control group, so it’s hard to know how much of the improvement came from the treatment alone.
  • Larger, longer-term trials are still needed.
  • There is no definitive evidence that NEWGyn permanently reverses menopausal changes or that it matches the effects of hormone therapy.

In short, the early results are encouraging, but the evidence is still developing. That is why a medical evaluation beforehand, and an open discussion of risks and benefits, are essential.

Intimate dryness is common, treatable and nothing to feel embarrassed about. The best path starts with an accurate diagnosis, realistic expectations and a doctor who explains everything clearly. For the right candidate, NEWGyn can be a thoughtful, hormone-free part of that plan.
